Identifying organizations receiving personal data in Android Apps

Many studies have demonstrated that mobile applications are common means to collect massive amounts of personal data. This goes unnoticed by most users, who are also unaware that many different organizations are receiving this data, even from multiple apps in parallel. This paper assesses different techniques to identify the organizations that are receiving personal data flows in the Android ecosystem, namely the WHOIS service, SSL certificates inspection, and privacy policy textual analysis. Based on our findings, we propose a fully automated method that combines the most successful techniques, achieving a 94.73% precision score in identifying the recipient organization. We further demonstrate our method by evaluating 1,000 Android apps and exposing the corporations that collect the users' personal data.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Variational Multiscale Nonparametric Regression: Algorithms and Implementation

Many modern statistically efficient methods come with tremendous computational challenges, often leading to large-scale optimisation problems. In this work, we examine such computational issues for recently developed estimation methods in nonparametric regression with a specific view on image denoising. We consider in particular certain variational multiscale estimators which are statistically optimal in minimax sense, yet computationally intensive. Such an estimator is computed as the minimiser of a smoothness functional (e.g., TV norm) over the class of all estimators such that none of its coefficients with respect to a given multiscale dictionary is statistically significant. The so obtained multiscale Nemirowski-Dantzig estimator (MIND) can incorporate any convex smoothness functional and combine it with a proper dictionary including wavelets, curvelets and shearlets. The computation of MIND in general requires to solve a high-dimensional constrained convex optimisation problem with a specific structure of the constraints induced by the statistical multiscale testing criterion. To solve this explicitly, we discuss three different algorithmic approaches: the Chambolle-Pock, ADMM and semismooth Newton algorithms. Algorithmic details and an explicit implementation is presented and the solutions are then compared numerically in a simulation study and on various test images. We thereby recommend the Chambolle-Pock algorithm in most cases for its fast convergence. We stress that our analysis can also be transferred to signal recovery and other denoising problems to recover more general objects whenever it is possible to borrow statistical strength from data patches of similar object structure.Comment: Codes are available at https://github.com/housenli/MIN

The present investigation raises as a general objective: to determine the relationship that exists between public policies and mental health in the childhood stage in the health centers of the Cajamarca district. We worked under a quantitative approach, the type of research is basic, the design is nonexperimental, with a transverse temporal cut. As a population, the databases of all the health centers within the district of Cajamarca belonging to the regional government were considered, these are three hospitals, a community health center and six medical posts, making a total of 10 health centers, of which 87 cases were studied. The results indicate that public policies are applied at a poor level, stress in infants occurs regularly, depression has a regular frequency, anxiety is between almost absent and regularly frequent, interaction with parents is neglectful and mental health is at a poor level. It is concluded that there is a direct and very strong significant relationship between public policies applied in health centers and mental health (p-value 0 0.001 and Spearman's Rho of 0.878). &nbsp

OMEGA - OSIRIS Mapping of Emission-line Galaxies in A901/2: I. Survey description, data analysis, and star formation and AGN activity in the highest density regions

We present an overview of and first results from the OMEGA (OSIRIS Mapping of Emission-line Galaxies in the multicluster system A901/2) survey. The ultimate goal of this project is to study star formation and active galactic nucleus (AGN) activity across a broad range of environments at a single redshift. Using the tuneable-filter mode of the Optical System for Imaging and low-Intermediate-Resolution Integrated Spectroscopy (OSIRIS) instrument on Gran Telescopio Canarias, we target Hα and [NII] emission lines over an ∼0.5×0.5 deg2 region containing the z∼0.167 multicluster system A901/2. In this paper, we describe the design of the survey, the observations and the data analysis techniques developed. We then present early results from two OSIRIS pointings centred on the cores of the A901a and A902 clusters. AGN and star-forming (SF) objects are identified using the [NII]/Hα versus WHα diagnostic diagram. The AGN hosts are brighter, more massive, and possess earlier type morphologies than SF galaxies. Both populations tend to be located towards the outskirts of the high-density regions we study. The typical Hα luminosity of these sources is significantly lower than that of field galaxies at similar redshifts, but greater than that found for A1689, a rich cluster at z∼0.2. The Hα luminosities of our objects translate into star formation rates (SFRs) between ∼0.02 and 6 Myr−1. Comparing the relationship between stellar mass and Hα-derived SFR with that found in the field indicates a suppression of star formation in the cores of the clusters. These findings agree with previous investigations of this multicluster structure, based on other star formation indicators, and demonstrate the power of tuneable filters for this kind of study

The objective of the CMS experiment is to find new particles based on proton-proton collisions. In order to find these new particles it is necessary to determine their interaction point. This is realized using vertex reconstruction. This work shows a robust method for reconstructing primary vertices which serves as an alternative to the one used by default in the CMS experiment. The other work done was an optimization of track quality in primary vertex reconstruction

The current curves of point machines are a good indi cator for identifying and analysing any faults in electro-mechanical switches. The mathematical representation of current curves based on their statistical and geometrical features is therefore essential for the ongoing digitalisation and automation of processes such as condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. This contribution presents recent results with regard to current curve modelling and discusses the chances and challenges of synthetically generating data using feature-oriented models for normal and abnormal current curves

We have demonstrated 50-nm enhancement-mode (E-mode) In[subscript 0.7]Ga[subscript 0.3]As PHEMTs with f[subscript max] in excess of 1 THz. The devices feature a Pt gate sinking process to effectively thin down the In[subscript 0.52]Al[subscript 0.48]As barrier layer, together with a two-step recess process. The fabricated device with L[subscript g] = 50-nm exhibits V[subscript T] = 0.1 V, g[subscript m,max] = 1.75 mS/μm, f[subscript T] = 465 GHz and f[subscript max] = 1.06 THz at a moderate value of V[subscript DS] = 0.75 V. In addition, we have physically modeled the abnormal peaky behavior in Mason's unilateral gain (U[subscript g]) at high values of VDS. A revised small signal model that includes a shunting R[subscript gd-NDR] with negative value successfully describes the behavior of the device from 1 to 67 GHz.United States.
